Charlie Barnwell was raised in Alaska. He professionally worked as an exploration geologist for 15 years; and in geographic information systems (GIS) for the remainder of his career as a manager for Esri, Inc., in local government; and then as GIS manager for engineering firms based in Alaska and in the Lower 48.  Charlie has had experience working in the trenches of GIS development and data collection to the management and implementation of GIS and geospatial projects for over 35 years. His years at Esri, Inc. as Alaska Regional Manager, assisting a variety of clients with a myriad of GIS challenges laid the foundation for later work at the Municipality of Anchorage, and engineering companies, assisting in many aspects of GIS from statewide to local, and in the details of engineering and data acquisition.
